I love roses!

Gertrude Jekyll Climbing

I just purchased and planted this lovely Old English rose from www.davidaustinroses.com and can't wait to see it grow.  It's a highly fragrant rose that has a nice rich pink color.  I am on a mission to make my cottage more cottagey!

Gertrude Jekyll

I planted it on the south side of our cottage where I know it will get plenty of sun.  I purchased a 6 foot trellis to support it, and also bought a cute little Victorian bird house to keep it company.

Garden Tour Part I

I received an invitation from my blog friend Martha to come down for a spell as her town was hosting a Garden Tour. Martha and I have been blog friends, and have enjoyed e.mailing with each other for some time now, so I couldn't turn down an opportunity to finally meet her and her kind husband. I arrived to Linderhof and the first female I saw asked "Are you Martha?" and was told Martha was inside. We went around back where we met her kind husband Jim who had settled in for a much deserved rest in a patio chair and was delighted to be greeting all the folks who were on the garden tour. He told me Martha would be out in a moment. I enjoyed visiting with him, as he had a very easy going nature. It was surreal to be in their garden and see their home after many visits to Martha's blog. When Martha came out we immediately gave each other a hug, and I was so happy to get to meet her in person. She invited us to get a glass of herbal iced tea, and had made delicious homemade shortbread cookies that had lavender in them. She said after we had a chance to look around, she would take me on a tour inside her home. A beautiful angel in the garden with bird seed to treat all the feathered friends that come over.
Hand painted Italian wallpaper....simple amazing! I've never seen anything so beautiful!

Martha and her hubby have a incredible collection of lovely antiques that they have collected from all over the world!

A favorite in her garden...a English Cottage special made for the fairies that come and visit!

The warm welcoming sign on the front entry. So many unique things at every corner of their incredible home. If you haven't been over to see Martha's blog you are in for a treat. She is an incredible cook, master gardener, book-aholic, and lives a very full life in her community. I encourage you my fellow bloggers that if you have chance to meet someone who you have befriended through blogging, you should take every advantage of meeting them in person. They are some of the nicest people I have come to know! Thank you Martha and Jim for opening up your home. Look forward to seeing you both again soon!

Garden Tour Part II

I couldn't squeeze in all the pictures in just one post, so bear with me, I am doing it in two sections. It's hard to convey the feeling of having it go from pouring rain, to sunshine and humidity, but that's Kansas for you. Dan-the-Man always says "If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes" Fell in love with this chair....anything weather worn with nostalgia is always nice to see out in a garden. Love the faded turquoise blue.
I could have sat by this fountain and listened to it all afternoon. So soothing...and butterflies and
dragonflies were flitting around from one flowers to the next.
I loved this old wrought iron gate piece with a garden basket attached. The colors were so much more vibrant than my little camera that could can show you though!

Neat idea for a bird bath, plant with flowers to switch things up a bit!

Beautiful tiger lilies that always seem to do so well in Kansas. Ask me if I've planted any in my yard? Next topic of conversation......

Everything's Coming Up Roses

Just a few lovely pictures to day dream over. Roses actually grow very well here in Kansas. I'm surprised more people don't have them in their yard. My mission is to keep adding more and more flowers to my yard each year so by the time I'm 90 it will be a palette of color to wander through. My peonies are in full bloom and the scent is the most heavenly thing around. I put a bouquet of them on the dining room table, and just walking by I go into a trance.

Heavenly Flowers

Just wanted to share for shots from around the crib. I have a hard time going to work each day because I just want to stop and smell the flowers and watch the bees come drink the nectar and feel the spring breezes pass by with rays of sunlight coming through the tree leaves warming me up. Who wants to be at a desk when you have these beauties to gaze upon!

I don't know if it's where I bought my pansies, or using Miracle Grow potting soil, but they are doing fantastic this year. I've never had such tall pansies! They are just lovely and when I'm sitting in the living room the are right there visiting with me. I always think about Alice and Wonderland and the pansies singing.

Extreme close up of my hanging flower basket on the back porch.

This is one of my favorite flowers, foxglove with some allysum(sp?)planted all around. I love sitting out on our back porch overlooking the sea of emerald green. It couldn't possible get any better than this....well okay....maybe when the fireflies come out and turn my backyard into a magical forest.

Awesome Picture

This is random...one of many pictures I have in my collection. My sister took it while she was on a trip in Alaska, and I just can't get over the color of the water. I stare at it, and just think "WOW". There are so many beautiful things on God's green earth for us to admire....and this is one humdinger! Click on the image so you can even see it larger. I think she might have missed her calling to be a professional photographer. Thank goodness someone in the family is retired and can visit all these places.

Fields of Heaven

These photographs were actually taken by my friend Cindy who has a second home in the beautiful state of Washington on Whidbey Island.
These pictures are on the main land and the colors are just spectacular. Does anything top looking at these beauties?

The Fishes

Just a completely random picture I took that doesn't have anything to do anything ....just my mood, feeling very tranquil. Enjoying my family, this lovely weather and feeling very peaceful inside my soul. I can imagine watching these fish swim again. Reveling in the colors, how each one is different....and how relaxing it always is to be near water...a pond or stream, or ocean. The sounds, the smells and it's calming charms.

3 Day Countdown

Three days until Spring.....just thought I'd share a few pictures around the yard. There are those of us who are relishing this wonderful spring like air....finally things are turning the corner in the Midwest and it feels good! Patiently waiting for my daffodils to open up.
Waiting eve more patiently for my lilacs to open up. When I lived in California, I would drive AN HOUR to a farm out in the country just to buy fresh cut lilacs, and NOW....I have them growing in my yard. Did I mention I am in heaven?

Dan-the-man started our garden and planted some spinach. I love spinach sauteed with olive oil and salt and pepper....or creamed spinach...or spinach salad...don't get me started!

Here we have some a couple varieties of lettuce. Nothing better than going out to your own back yard to pick a salad. Nothing beats that. Unless you are eating that salad with the man you love, and maybe drinking a nice glass of refreshing Vignoles from Stone Hill Winery...while sitting outside, listening to the birds chatter. That might be better!

Heavenly Flowers

Can you smell it? The wonderful intoxicating scent? Are you transformed the moment you close your eyes and deeply inhale that you are a princess laying on a bed of petals in a palace. Netting surrounds your bed and gently moves with the light breeze. It's dusk and warm sunlight and is gently streaming in, warming your mind body and soul.
What about these poppies? What comes to mind? A hillside, bathed in sunshine with the smell of fresh grass and little dew drops of mist tickling your toes as you walk basking in the warmth. Not a care in the world. In a complete state of contentment wondering how lucky you are to be alive on this glorious day.

What about these cottage flowers? Memories of walking through a magical garden, certain if you look hard enough in the most dense part of the flowers that you will see a fairy. For there could be no other place they would want to live. Laying on a leaf, gazing up at a ladybug casting a shadow above them. Hearing a cricket. Birds chirping. All is well in the world.

Morning Glory

Morning Glories are one of my favorite flowers. When we moved into our home, my neighbor (aka Mrs. Greenthumb) brought me over some of her seeds to share. I planted them underneath my living room window, and they come back every year, up a trellis and weave up the shutters. I love sitting on my couch looking outside, especially in the early morning having a cup of coffee framed by their beauty.

Springtime!

Spring has sprung and I am enjoying every little blossom and bird that comes my way! Have a beautiful day my friends!
