Cherry Tree

I have a wonderful memory of picking cherries with Dan-the-Man. There was a cherry orchard about an hour from where we used to live, and it was a you pick 'em farm. Your options for containers were an old big tin coffee can, or a giant plastic bucket. We opted for two coffee cans and went to town picking until our buckets were over flowing with cherries. When we came home, my Mom came over and we sat at my dining room table and pitted cherries for hours, and I made a cherry crumb pie. I've never cared for store made pies, and the ones that have that sticky gelatinous bright red stuff with a few cherries thrown in have never floated my boat....but....homemade from scratch cherry crumb pie made with love? Now that is something to talk about. If you have the patience, try it sometime...there's no going back!

Hey Nancy!

Your memory of cherry pickin' is delightful and the pie sounds absolutely scrumptious! I had no idea that they even grew cherries in CA (is that where this was? but I suppose they grow EVERYTHING in CA)! :)

When I was a little girl and we would travel to MI to visit my grandparents in Detroit, cherry pie was a must at the annual family reunion. MI is known for its cherries. Here is a link to find out some fascinating facts about MI cherries...it might be fun to compare. I imagine that they are different varieties for the different climates. Absolute Michigan. Happy Reading!

"What a beautiful cherry tree. I have fond memories of a cherry tree in the neighborhood when I was a child -- and it was a kid magnet -- much to the dismay of the lady who owned it!

Hi Nancy...I am wandering about on your blog this morning..having a great time! Was it Beaumont that you picked Cherries? :) We are planning a trip up there soon. It was nice to read about places I love to go such as Miss Tiggywinkles? Fondly called "Tiggy's". I shop the Mission Galleria all the time and find the sweetest things there. I know I should be hitting the Thrift shops..but I am hooked on The Mission Inn area. They have it all torn up now putting in something..not sure what. It was a mess last week..but..I just hiked around stuff and shopped my heart out!
Ok..back to reading and snooping about!
~smiles and love~
